Book award nominations. The GayLesbian Task Force of the American Library Association is issuing a call for nominations for its 1994 Gay-Lesbian Book Awards. Awards are given for both literature (long and short fiction and poetry) and nonfiction, and are given to books of exceptional merit relating to lesbian and gay experience.
To be eligible, a book must have been published in 1993. Awards are not limited to books published by American publishing firms; but only titles in English or a translation are eligible.
The Awards have been given since 1971, establishing them as the oldest lesbian-gay awards in the U.S. A committee made up of librarians who are members of the ALA Gay-Lesbian Task Force decides each year's winners from a list of nominations compiled throughout the year.
Send nominations to: Ellen Greenblatt, Central Technical Services, Lockwood Library Building, SUNY Buffalo, Buffalo, New York, 14260-2200.
A short statement describing why the book is being nominated should accompany the nominations. Nominations must be received by December 31, 1993. Awards will be announced in March of 1994.
